Supporting Us
The work of the Oakes is very much a team effort. We will always need partners who will share our vision to reach thousands of young lives with the Gospel.
Please consider becoming a Project Partner and support The Oakes in the following ways:
Prayer
The most important way you can support the project is to pray. Only through prayer will The Oakes continue to be used as an effective centre for sharing Christ and discipleship.
Our 'Oakes News' is available on request. It reports a wide variety of news and highlights specific items for prayer, including needs and concerns alongside items for thanks and praise.
Our monthly prayer meeting is open to everyone. It takes place on the first Thursday of the month, 8.00 - 9.00pm at The Oakes and 24 Canterbury Avenue, Sheffield S10. (No meetings Sep or Jan) A prayer sheet is prepared for each meeting. Please let us know if you would like to receive copies by post or e-mail. The prayer notes and accompanying letter are also posted on our website each month.
Voluntary Help
All help, skilled or unskilled, is gratefully received. We are always in need of help in the kitchen, house, grounds and office as well as on the Gap Team (live in) and Support team (occasional weekends and weeks). If you feel able to offer your time and skills, please let us know.
Financial Assistance
By May 1998, The Oakes had secured gifts and interest-free loans to cover the purchase price of the property. Regular Acorn funding, one-off gifts and grants from charitable trusts enabled an extensive programme of building and renovation to take place.
On 1 July 2000, The Oakes opened on schedule. Every bill had been paid on time and our Opening Service of Thanksgiving and dedication acknowledged God's faithful provision in every detail, large and small.
Financial support will always be vital because camp fees are kept to a minimum to enable maximum participation. Fees provide for camp bills (i.e. food and utilities) but do not cover the total cost of managing the centre or developing new facilities.
