Visiting Group Leaders
What are my responsibilities?
Visiting leaders are asked to support The Oakes team and uphold house rules. The Oakes team is responsible for all aspects of the camp. Relieved of organisational pressures, visiting leaders are encouraged to relax and join in. This is an opportunity to get to know your children/young people in a relaxed atmosphere. If a parent has asked you to dispense medication, please talk to the Programmer about this. (see medication and first aid issues under The Camps)
Who deals with discipline issues?
Most discipline issues are minor and are quickly dealt with by the camp Programmer. When necessary, visiting leaders will be asked to help.
Do visiting leaders have to stay on site throughout the camp?
It is recommended leaders stay with the campers in order to make the most of the opportunity to build relationships. If leaders plan to leave, the Programmer should be notified first.
Are there separate eating/sleeping/toilet/washing facilities available for visiting leaders?
Everyone eats together. All campers sit with their dorms and dorm leaders. Visiting leaders can choose to sit with their children/young people or at a separate table. A lounge with tea/coffee-making facilities is available for Oakes team and visiting leaders. The campers sleep in dorms with their dorm leaders (two Oakes staff for each sleeping area). Visiting leaders generally sleep in adult rooms. However, it may be necessary for the adult leaders to share a room with Oakes team members. The Oakes does not have separate toilet and washing facilities for visiting leaders.
Can visiting leaders bring their families?
Due to space restrictions, it most likely will not be possible.
