Website Relaunch!
For the last three months (among other stuff) we've been working on a special project - we've been redesigning the website! What exactly does this mean?
- New Look - The site will keep its general layout, but will have a funky new look!
- Home Page / What's New - These pages will be revamped to make them more usable and welcoming!
- Drop-downs - The top menu ('About Us', 'Camps', etc) will become a drop-down, so you can go straight to the page you want!
- Forums - All new posts and comments will be highlighted from the main forum page! Have you noticed how much space the comments take? We've fixed that too making it easier to read!
- Galleries - They'll take up much less screen space and look cooler too!
- Profile Pictures - You've noticed all the mini-profile pictures on 'What's New'? They'll start showing up in other places now!
- Polls - What's you favourite dorm or activity? Soon everyone will know with our newest feature - vote and see results on our regularly changing poll!
- Wallpapers - We're adding two more sizes for those of you with larger widescreen screens! We're also aiming to bring out a new wallpaper each month!
- More To Come... - Once we've launched it won't stop there - we're hoping to keep adding new features! So, keep your eyes open and give us your ideas!
I've got two questions for you
- Does this sound good? What else (big or little) would make the re-launch better?
- Would you like to become website testers before the big release? We're looking for people familiar with the website who will tell us of all the problems they find, answer questionnaires and give helpful feedback.

and about the testing bit i'll do it as well if you want :) Elizabeth
Thanks Alice and Elizabeth - I'll count you in.
I've decided not to reveal any other features until they're in the pipeline... (in case they don't happen!)
Putting the Memory Verse System on is a great idea - I'll add that to the list of post launch features... Since there's still a bit to do and we want to get launched before 2010!
That would be a great feature... could possibly implement something like a facebook 'wall', but I don't think we'd be allowed to do anything that involves private messaging - for child protection reasons we want all conversation out in the open!
I'll have to look into this more next year though - I'll add it to the list of possible future features =)
I'm glad you approve of the above changes =) Did you want to test?
OK! I've decided to let the fun begin!
The site isn't quite finished but since a lot has been accomplished I've decided to let you guys loose on it =) In doing so, I would really appreciate as much feedback as possible .... read on...
- To Do List I've made a page called 'To Do' (www.oakes.org.uk/todo ), on which I'll write down all the things that still need doing (from features to bugs*) - I'll update it as I go along! Anything you write about on this page I'll to add to the to-do list - check it regularly to see what I've been working on! (That page is only accessible by website testers)
- Discussion / Questionnaires This forum page can remain an area for discussion and ideas, and I'll ask questions here. Please participate as much as possible and be honest with your answers - we want this site to be as good as it can be... and we need your help for that! Also it's important to remember that people often have different opinions, so please don't be offended or upset if things don't turn out as you'd hoped.
- Please try and respond to any questions that are in red
Rock on! (Matthew 7:24-27 24 "Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock. 25 The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it didn't fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 Everyone who hears these words of mine, and doesn't do them will be like a foolish man, who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell--and great was its fall." )
(If I don't hear from you in a week or so, I'll presume something's gone horribly wrong and I'll switch you back!)
* 'bugs' are basically mistakes - things that happen which aren't supposed to!Here's a few things you need to know about the new theme
- The what's new page will be replaced on the actual launch date - see the new 'what's new' page .
- The home page will also be replaced - it will include a flash welcome panel which I've not done yet... I've made a little flash thing where a picture of the house will appear - please let me know if this doesn't work! See the new 'home' page .
I'm not sure if this is what you meant by the "1 comments" bug, but on the what's new list, each update to the forum topic has been repeated 3 times:

Sorry if that doesn't make sense...
Hi 200... I'm glad you like the new theme! - Which particular things do you like?
Regarding the above, I think I know what you mean... although that's very strange since the script that writes that part hasn't changed!
This is on the old WN page right? ( .../whatsnew rather than .../whatsnew2 )
Does it happen every time you load the page?
Changes... for your benefit
For everyone involved in testing (that's 200, Alice, Elizabeth, Alex... and some team members), I've made the new WN page the default location for when you log in. The new and old WN pages are both accessible from the left side-bar. I also added the 'To Do List' to the side bar to make it easier for you to view
Thanks Alex... we used to have a videos thing when Ozzy set up the previous site but for whatever reason it broke and it never got fixed. I would be nice to restore it at some point. There are some limitations in terms of what we can show, though, because of copyrights and child protection... so I'm not sure if letting anyone add videos will happen... but that's something we can look in to when we get to it. Great idea.
Hey Elizabeth... I've noticed that problem before, but I was wondering if any of you would encounter it. The issue only happens with Internet Explorer (as far as I know), and since that's still what most people use I'm gonna need to figure that one out before the release! (added to list). Can you tell me which version of IE you are using? (type 'alt' then 'h' then 'a' (help > about internet explorer)). It will be probably 7 or 8?
Normally I would recommend getting a different browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc) or making sure you have the latest version of IE, but it would be cool if you stuck with it until I figure it out so you can let me know I fixed it! Thanks!
As for the theme, I can't describe exactly what aspect, but it just seems really good! =) Sorry for not being much help there!
Also, I'm not sure exactly what the image bug is, but I haven't noticed any problems with them...
The image bug is when it shows the profile pic when it shouldn't need to, or puts it in the wrong place... for instance http://oakes.org.uk/node/1206
Keep searching for problems... that includes everyone... I'm tempted to say that the person who gives the most useful feedback / finds the most problems will get a prize.. but I don't have a prize to give... how about an Oakes Lanyard? I think I'm allowed to do that!
There is a similar thing where the text on the Bible page, where the, "search keyword in Bible" and "my verses" overlap the border, but obviously it's not really a problem, you just might want to know.
Nice spot Alex! I'll add it to the list.
I can see pros and cons to prizing the top posters - I can imagine it would increase the number of posts and make the site busier... but it might get silly and reduce the quality of the posts don't you think? ...I like that people post for fun or because they need help, and not because they think they'll win something. What do other people think? Maybe there are other ways prizes could be won?
Keep the ideas coming... even little things... here's an idea I had:
We could select a photo each month maybe, and people could write funny (not rude) captions for the picture - for example I'm sure you could come up with something funny for this picture
Elizabeth...
I think I've mostly sorted the main problem with Internet Explorer where the middle content area randomly shifts over/under the left side-bar. Please would you try it out for a bit and see if you can get it to break again?
If you're using IE7 or ealier (or IE8 in compat mode) A message should appear at the top of every page... does it for you? what does it say?
I'm glad you liked my idea 200 =)
For optimal viewing of this website, we recommend upgrading to the latest version of Internet Explorer.
i also think that on the home page(y) thing is where the comments from a leader and a camper are they should be updated because there like from 3-4 years ago and the oakes has got much better since then!! :)
about us – directions – the map at the bottom is hanging half of the bit in the middle where al the main information is.
camps – activities – the pictures down the left hand side are only showing the top of the picture the rest is missing!! also the open days page is on twice under about us and support! dont know if any of this is any help but hope it is!!
Sounds good Mez... T-shirt for the most useful web tester!
...and excellent job Elizabeth for your findings! (Added some to the to-do list). I put the Open Days in two places intentionally (as well as Directions), because I think they apply to both categories and I'd want people to find it in the first place they look. With the activities, the images were cut short to line up with the text - but I can see what you mean now I look at it... so thanks for flagging it up - will switch the golf picture too!
Regarding the home page, I was gonna swap it completely and get rid of the comments and have a flash thing instead (see the test home page I made - does the animation work? is it fast+smooth or slow+jerky on your computer? Does it take long before it starts on the first view?
What I'd thought about for the flash thing would be to have pictures/news/adverts that keep changing (like on other websites) and then have some 'quick links' to commonly accessed pages below (eg camp dates, directions, etc). I'm not sold on this - does anyone have any other suggestions? Do you think that it's worth having some (updated) comments still?
I realise that the forum contains a lot of information and you all may not want to read every word. I've decided that I'll put in red any questions, or things you need to know. Please do you best to read these and answer any of the questions - I appreciate everyone's input - this includes the Team who are also web testers!
Thanks everyone for all your help so far!
I feel priveleged to have seen it develop over the past few months. I think it looks fantastic! I love the new theme and appreciate all the hard work you've put into getting it this far. :)
A few things I've noticed that could be improved:
- If a picture in one of the galleries has a title that is longer than one line, the text seems to go underneath the photo.
- When the Bible verse pops up in the forum topics, the box with the reference in it seems to get really narrow when the verse is towards the right side of the line.
- Bible references have an extra colon (eg Bookname:10:14) when they are quoted in the forums.
- The notices page looks different than the other pages.
Looking good, otherwise!
Thanks Daisy!! =) I'll add them to my list... started the day with 6 bugs, now I'm almost back to where I started!! I guess that's a good thing.... =P
It seems that #2 is a problem just in IE... and even in the latest version (8) annoying. In my firefox the verse box is spread out nice and wide down the middle of the content area. Doesn't mean I won't try and fix it =)
I hope to abolish the notices page - just need to check that's OK first =P
Alex... I like games... I assume that's what you mean by arcade? However we'd need more specifics before saying yes, and that would have to wait 'til post launch since there's still a lot to do and I'd love to get it finished by New Year. Let me know what you find though - could be cool.
One of the things I've really wanted to do, but never had the time to get it done, is make an/some Oakes game(s) for the website - that's more of a dream than a reality at this point in time though!
i was just thinking coz i been at a birthday party, you could do somethingwhen itssomeones birthday like put a messagewhen they log in or something that would be good because when you join you put your birthday in and nothings done with it! also on the bookstall page, and click on the age group books the page doesnt come up it just says I'm sorry... this page does not seem to exist. If you think it should, please let us know! dotn know if you have like created these yet but thought i would tell you anyway
not found anything else wrong yet will look again tomorrow!
A birthday message would be a good idea. The birthday was something I added a month or two ago with the hope of being able to use it. I'm not sure how many existing users have set their birthday since then, and I've noticed some users since have not even bothered to set it... so their birthday is the day they signed up. If they got their birthday greeting on the wrong day that could be a prompt to correct it! I think your suggestion is definitely easily doable - I think that'll be one of the first things I do post-launch when I get a chance =) Nice one
I fixed the links in the bookstall - good spot - should work now. I haven't really looked at the bookstall - I might revamp the whole bookstall post-launch, but if you spot any problems that make it unusable, they should be fixed asap really - just like those links =)
Keep searching... there's probably loads more things to find!
Romans 10:14 -> Romans 10:14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? (still works)
Romans:10:14 -> Romans 10:14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? (still works)
Romans 10v14 -> Romans 10:14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? (now works)
Romans 10vs14-16 -> Romans 10:14-16 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? 15 And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!" 16 But they didn't all listen to the glad news. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" (now works)
Romans10:14 -> Romans 10:14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? (now works)
Roomans 10:14 -> Roomans 10:14 (still fails)
Romans 100:14 -> Romans 100:14 (still fails)
OK I fixed the Bible Reference bugs, although they were a bit of a hack, but there was no other way (the person who made the bible module needs to fix these issues properly!) Notice typos won't work, and invalid references will try to work and fail - makes sense.
Are there any other variations you think people might use that don't work?
Under 'Join the Team' you can click on a link to read the job description. The colour behind the main headings is different than everywhere else on the website.
Also, the pictures of the books on the bookstall may need some adjusting. I think we should get pictures for the missing ones, too.
WOW, just logged on the website looks birlliant - nice one luke! im not sure if anyone has already made these points above me, but i thought i would add them on all the same :)
- the whats new (new) page looked a bit crammed when i first saw it, i love all the stuff but maybe just a little bit more spaced out?
- what about a video section? i know there all those child protections laws and stuff, but you know the video that the oakes team made last summer? havent been able to find them on youttube, so if they were on here that would be cool :D
- could there be a sort of notice page for like birthdays, special events, christmas, camp themes, updates, etc ...
- where it says 'who's online' its awesome that our profile pics come up :) but what about the people that dont have profile pics?
- i love the poll too - is there just the one or will they change?
thanks luke, it really is awesome :)
Wow, a lot can happen in two days! I've spent the first hour of today updating the to do list! It's changed a bit... so have a look.
Since we have only one week left 'til our Christmas break, I've decided to push to get the launch done by the end of the week... so that means completing all of list [A] and as much as possible of list [B].
Daisy ... thanks for pointing out those pages - I'd completely forgotten about them! =)
200 , hope you had a great camp! Glad the old WN is fixed for you too. I'll have to look into copyright issues for putting chords up online... you were referring to songs we sing at The Oakes right?
Alice , thanks for your response and your encouraging/constructive feedback - Daisy agreed with you on the WN being on the crammed side... I was trying to fit as much info as possible into as small a space as possible - I'll see what I can do (post-launch).
The notices page is a great idea... I'll give it some thought and hopefully get that rolling early next year.
In regards to Who's Online... you mean you can't tell who they are? You can hover your mouse over and it will say their screen name, but you've made me decide to do the same thing as what happens with 'Newest Campers' - yeah?
Videos... I'll see what I can do about getting it back up. I'd like to reinstate videos at some points but I do have concerns over older Oakes videos breaching copyright. Andy D posted youtube links to the movie you're asking about on this forum topic
Polls will be changed regularly... not sure how regularly yet... I can only think of a handful of questions at the moment.
Chris , Hi, welcome to the topic! Hope you had a great camp too. I see what you're saying on the bible reference check - the guy who wrote the module didn't code that in... i could hack the module, but if they bring out any updates it would revert. I'll file this issue and the previous issues with him(or her) and hope they get fixed!
Smileys... another thing that got lost in the past... definitely worth reinstalling - I'll look into one day.
Good spot on your last three bugs also - the small bugs are my favourite.. they're easiest to kill... unless they're like fleas, which are tiny but difficult to crush... Added them to the list.
Alex ... another cool suggestion... I'm not sure at this stage I'd want to host it here since streaming radio would use a lot of bandwidth - maybe if the site grows a lot more in the future it will become possible. If you find something that is external that we can embed it might be a possibility - it doesn't hurt to look!
Thanks everyone for all your contributions - it's all very encouraging =)
the last post i did about the bible page, yeah i can see the dark blue section and i was just looking at it and i thought it would be good if there was like a kinda explanation about each book like who wrote it whats it about ect. that would be good :)
also is there any way you could have a link that puts you back to the top of a page and one to see the last post?
Wow! 12 new posts since yesterday - impressive!
Elizabeth - the Bible book summary idea is a good one... it should be possible in theory, but I'd imagine we'd have to write it ourselves to avoid copyright. I'll add it to the possible feature list. Links to the top and bottom of the forum is definitely doable so I'll add that to the post-launch to-do list.
Chris (and Alex) - the website isn't hosted at The Oakes, but there's still a bandwidth limit on traffic to and from that server through our domain name - I imagine we'd have to pay more if we raised that significantly... but that's something I'd have to ask Ozzy (since he set it up). That's why I was suggesting embedding an app to download someone else's content to use their bandwidth instead =P
The application you made looks very promising... well done! One question though... where would the music be coming from? (i.e. Is it coming from the same server? Do we have permission to play it on our website?)
200 - You're right about the home page link not being very easy to find - I should probably improve that =). The 'Website?' I guess was intentional, but probably makes more sense without the '?' - so now it's gone
You're also right about the wallpaper... I was planning on starting in January and trying to make them appropriate to the season - great minds think alike! Jezza's made two cool ones, but they're more autumnal so you'll have to wait for those! The 'December' one was put there as more of a WN layout suggestion. (Did you guys get snow this morning? We did!)
Holly - you're in! Oakes clothing would be great to sell and may possibly happen in the future. It would need to be worth all the extra effort that would be involved at this end, and seeing as I wouldn't be the one sorting and sending the clothes I can't make that decision. But I can see it happening one day (hopefully)
At the moment I'm working on the flash thing for the home page, I'll upload it (and let you know) when I make a good amount of progress.
I've made January's wallpaper... it's not as wintery as I'd hoped.. but it does look a little bleak. For now it's only showing on the new WN page for you guys to enjoy - and once the site is launched, everyone can enjoy it =)
I've uploaded the progress I made on the home page . You may need to hard-refresh to see the newest version (Ctrl+F5) depending on browsers etc. I feel I'll need to add text to the links and make the hand cursor appear when you move the mouse over. I made a little headway on the picture changing - you can click on the two squares to select the picture you want - I hope to make them scroll through automatically with cross-fading and highlight the appropriate square as each picture is shown. The purpose of the picture scrolling would be to show a picture of The Oakes and then to follow with adverts (e.g 'Extension 2010') - so I'll need to add links where appropriate. I'll also need to make it so the pics and everything are loaded dynamically from the database so I don't have to update the flash file every time!
I'm gonna need a good night's sleep tonight if I'm gonna get all that done tomorrow =) For the rest of today I think I'll work on something else. I guess all you guys will be home from school soon - welcome home!
yeah it did snow today on and off but its all settled at my house but ive walked home in it and i really dont ewant to go out again its sooo cold :)
Yeah Chris that's great... it all comes down to what music we're allowed to play then. That'll be something that'll have to wait until later though seeing as today is kinda my last working day before New Year! Argh so much to do!
Thanks Elizabeth for your confirmation of my thoughts =)
When I switched you on to the new theme I did that already... hover over the arrow next to your name in the previous message.
Check out the home page again everyone - do a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5) if its the same - Labels should appear when you move over the icons. There's still much to do to get to where I want with that, but at least it's in a launch-able state... I think!
The new site is launched!!
I figured if it wasn't today it would be January and I'm too impatient! Please keep all the bugs and minor improvements coming in - I want to make what we've got as well-rounded and enjoyable as possible before we progress any further.
Feel free to keep suggesting features too - remember the two restrictions which seem to sadly suppress so much... child protection and copyrights. Also remember that simple/small features that are more easily implemented are more likely to be implemented sooner... for example, a website feature that does all your homework and household chores isn't likely to happen any time soon. =P
Hey guys! Sorry I've not been on in a while - I'm currently in California for Christmas and New Year and the next week or so... anyone jealous? =P Good feedback however - I'll try and fix those bugs when I get back, if not before. I also noticed on firefox 3.0 and earlier problems with the arrows on the left nav... and sometimes there are gaps or overlaps with the border/background depending on whats in it.
200... that message only appears when you're logged out? That's strange.
Alex, could you try a hard refresh to make sure it's not a caching problem (Ctrl+F5)
Thanks for your continued feedback everyone - I look forward to continuing the work! Need to work on a couple of mailings when I get back too (Oakes News and a special camper mailing about the extension!)
nothings going wrong for me that ive noticed, so its all good, hope you had a good christmas!! ;)
i am now getting told as well once i have logged out that i should upgrade to view it better but then when i log in its fine again, and i m on firefox as well and it was alright before!
also, i dont know if this matters but when you click on one of the things from the drop down menu thing when you click on what page you want, the dotted line box around the linky type thing is longer than the box so the line around it goes off, i dont know if my explanation makes sense or not, tell me if you dont understand!
That's really strange that it keeps coming and going. I've made a test block (below the online users) which displays your browser information (that's what is used to determine whether or not the message is shown.
If the upgrade message appears for any of you at any time, please could you copy the message and also the browser information from the test box into this forum so I can see where the problem might be.
Some good ideas from you two (Alex + Elizabeth). Elizabeth, I know what you mean about the links too... I need to review the side menu to get it working in firefox 3.0, so i might be able to fix that in the process... possibly.
I'm Looking forward to this new year and continuing to improve the site little by little!
For optimal viewing of this website, we recommend upgrading to the latest version of Internet Explorer. Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
test block Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.6) Gecko/20091201 Firefox/3.5.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
I'm back! So much colder here.. brr!
Thanks guys... I'd forgotten I'd written the UA underneath the message. I'm baffled as to why it's reporting a different UA's depending on your log in status! I'll go and look at the team computers - thanks Ben...
Mez I added the colossians reference to the Bug List. It was thinking the 3 was a verse number... and then wasn't showing because 3 is before 6! I didn't think of making sure cross-chapter verses worked.
Wow! Just fixed a big problem which no-one noticed.... and the reason no-one noticed is because applies to all users who aren't website testers =P Apparently other users who logged on couldn't access the 'What's New' page, and were sent to an 'Access Denied' page instead (on log in!) - easy to fix, and hopefully we should get more votes on the polls now, etc.
Also I've changed Harry's picture to one where he's actually smiling - thanks Jezza! Also updated some other stuff, mostly to do with booking information.
I looked on the team computer, but it wouldn't show the upgrade message... doh.
Oh yeah... Mez... the version we have has no copyright issues. I'm not sure how we'd go about getting hold of a copyrighted version like the NIV. The module's website is down at the mo. I'll add it to the list =)
The browser detection issue - I think I made a work-around that will stop the error showing up (it might mean that some people using the very old Internet Explorer 6 may not get the message when they should... but that's worth it I think =)
If it happens again for anyone, please let me know!
Hey Everyone, During our review week we tried to think how we could improve everything at the Oakes for you, including the website! Most of the ideas we had you’d already thought of (shown in the "To Do" section ). Here are some others we had, please add your thoughts on these bearing in mind that some may not be possible:
- Online prayer box (so we as the team can pray for specific things more)
- Team video blogs
- Downloadable audio from camp meetings
- Memory verse testing game
Cool ideas... thanks Team... and thanks representative Ben! I'll add them to the list =) No promises they'll happen any time soon (if they're possible) - the list is getting long!!!
You can now make your text look just as you wanted it to - The smileys are also back, as requested!
You should get some icons above the comment response textbox allowing you to do the following...
- You can do Bold and Italics ... just like you do in Word, etc
- You can do numbered bullet lists (like this) as well as normal bullet lists
- New lines now work as expected.
(Shift-Return will go to the next line without starting a new paragraph or bullet (like this line)) - You can turn any text into a link too using the link icon - the To-Do List
- And here's the smileys:
(I've fixed all smileys in posts that people have viewed in the last two months... if there's a particular page you want re-smiled, let me know!) -
You can add images (like before) - but it's still not the easiest tool to use...
Please test it works! Have a good day =)
Just checking bible verses still work... Amos 2:9Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.
This a verse Ben A shared in devotions... because it mentioned The Oakes... kind of
(Just discovered the Bible verse popup thing was broken... fixed it now)
Hey Luke
Bible verses are broken again! Thanks for changing the translation. This one makes a bit more sense! Am liking that the paragraphs work now! Thanks.
Yeah! The Bible verses aren't working on Chrome, don't know about other browsers...
Ive Just Been On The Booking Forms Page, While Not Logged On And At The Bottom of The Page It Told ME :

But Then I Logged On And Went Back On The PAge And The Yellow Box Saying ^^ Didnt Appear!!
Hello. I finally figured out why it was being so random with the browser versions - When you're not logged in, it will save the whole page in the cache so the page doesn't need to be remade every time a new guest comes along. However, if the original copy is made by somebody with an old browser, then the message will appear to everyone who is not logged in too (I'm not sure why it didn't do it every time)!
So I just decided to show the message only to people who are logged in - which isn't ideal, but it will stop the message showing when it shouldn't =)
With the Bible, I updated the module, and re-tweaked it. It won't be much different than before... I removed that random purple background behind the verse references. I couldn't see a way of having references with overlap chapters to work (e.g. Col 2:6-3:8 6 As therefore you received Christ Jesus, the Lord, walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving. 8 Be careful that you don't let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily, 10 and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power; 11 in whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us; and he has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; 15 having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16 Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, 17 which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ's. 18 Let no one rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshipping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding firmly to the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, grows with God's growth. 20 If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, 21 "Don't handle, nor taste, nor touch" 22 (all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? 23 Which things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imposed worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but aren't of any value against the indulgence of the flesh. 1 If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, our life, is revealed, then you will also be revealed with him in glory. 5 Put to death therefore your members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry; 6 for which things' sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience. 7 You also once walked in those, when you lived in them; 8 but now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth. ) without completely re-writing the module - which would take forever!
I'm not sure why sometimes the verses don't show up - but it seems they show up later! Maybe with the module updated it won't do that anymore... I can hope!
hi soz for long time no see. just had to format my computer so been restoring all of the computer conetent! 2 months!
Welcome back! Hope your computer is feeling better now
Did you check out the newest forum topic regarding the what's new page?
Stuff I've done recently:
- What's New page revamp - I hope you like it! (Still want to add a couple more content types to display... like notices, new users etc)
- Built-in profile pictures - go to the part where you edit your profile picture... there are now some options for people who can't (or choose not to) upload a picture on registration.
- Wallpapers - I've revamped that page a bit and the page for viewing a specific wallpaper
Any feedback is always appreciated... don't think we've forgotten about that t-shirt (read above... somewhere!)
I love the changes. It's looking good!
I think the verse link is messed up again. I see a box appear when I hover over a reference, but there is nothing written inside the box. I'm sure you can fix it easily. :)
heyyy, yeah The Memory Verse Thing is Working On Some But Not On Others, The One Luke gave Me In Some Topic Somewhere Worked And One Mez Gave Didnt Work, In the Same Topic Thing, I Think It Was the Praying One.
The Whats New Page Could Change Something On it When You Have Read What Youve Read So Youve Known That Youve Read it. its Confusing Me.
Also Now The Whats New Page is Like that It Takes Like Nearly Forever To Scroll Back Up To Top, Any Way Of Making it Quicker And Easier???? :)
WAIT!!, Ignore the Second Bit, Ive Just Noticed it Already Does That!, i Get Confused Easily!! :D
Yeah, the green triangles represent stuff you haven't read... is that what you meant by 'the second bit'?
Did you mean to have a link right at the bottom of the what's new page to go back to the top? I know I still need to add top and bottom links back into the forum topics as you requested.
The verses are confusing me... sometimes they work... sometimes they don't - I'll try and have another look today.
Yesterday I was working on making the user profile page more user friendly. I'm thinking of integrating the poll results with it, so instead of having the 'Oakes Info' on the profile, it will show your poll answers instead (which will be similar questions plus more). The one exception would be 'Best Oakes Memory' which I'll move into the 'Personal Info' section.
I think I'll make it optional as to whether people want to show poll answers in their profile, in case people want to answer polls but not have people know what they answered.
Anyone have any thoughts on any of that?
yeah that is what i meant luke! :)
About the polls and profiles thing, i think that you could have a box to tick once youve voted in a poll to say whether or not you want the particular answer to show on your profile or not, is that possible ???
Popup verses! I finally got to the bottom of it... well deep enough to make them show up
Sorry that was out of action for so long
AND... I added a bunch of code to the module to make cross-chapter references work... as Mez requested. eg. !!
AND... I made it so if it's not a real (or invalid) verse, it won't make a popup.. as requested by Chris I think. eg. Col 5:1
AND... I've hidden the Bible selection from the profile... as requested... so I've actually crossed off everything in the bugs section of the to-do list! craziness!
Elizabeth... I'm not seeing an easy way to allow each user to choose which polls they want to display, but I'm very sure they could choose between all polls and no polls, and if they didn't want a specific poll showing on their profile, they just shouldn't answer that one. The question is, should that be on or off by default (when they register)?
What do you mean by default? you mean that if they dont say not to show them then it will show them??
default means before they make a choice... so when they register, should it already be on or off?
Just added a 'go to last' link next to header for 'replies' at the top of forum. Tomorrow I'll try and add 'go to top' in the 'leave comment' header.
I Think already off, because people may not see it at first and if they answer a poll and they dont want everyone to know what they answered and the default is on on theneveryone will see it anywayy.
And the 'go to top' button works
Luke this is amazing. well done. The site is great. 5 stars
Hi every one
LUKE!!!!,
Ive Just Noticed, Whenever I Comment Anywhere My Old Profile Picture Comes Up (Barney Hes Great :D ) Except Ive Not Had That Picture For Like A Year
But Then When I Go To My Actual Profile The Picture Is The Most Recent One (Me Stood On The Edge Of A Cliff) and also on the home page and whos online section.
Its Really Weird, Do You Know Why??
Oh yeah! I see that. I was playing around with the way images were stored, making it so they were back in the folder they used to be in. I guess that picture was still there from before. I'll clear the cache tomorrow and hopefully it'll re-create the picture using your current picture instead =)
This morning I added functionality to go to next and previous image when viewing an image in the gallery... check it out
I love it! Thanks for adding that feature. It makes it so much easier to scroll through pictures in the gallery. Good job. :)
ive been wondering, Could you add a 'like' button like there is on facebook, so we can like pictures and peoples comments if we dont want to actually comment of it? :)
Hey Elizabeth! That sounds like a good idea =) Probably not too difficult either... hopefully. I'll add it to the list.
Hi all,
haven't been on here for a while :s what with all the exams and stuff i had fallen out of habit, will try and start a routine again.
Anyway, songs, i don't know how many people know about spotify but its free and legal with lots of songs on, think of it as youtube just with only music and better :P but you can have a collaborative playlist on it so i have made on with many of the songs we sing at church and the oaks. Unfortunately you can only listen if you have a spotify account, but it is free and i defiantly recommend it
http://www.spotify.com/uk/new-user/ and then the playlist is Churchy oakes songs
Seriously loving all the new stuff thats happened since last i looked, good job luke
although the 'vote up' button thing only returns me an error "Error description 403 forbidden", perhaps a file ownership issue?
Welcome back to the site Chris!
Now the voting thing.... I didn't realise other people could see it... I didn't finish it and it was supposed to be hidden! Whoops! [I just hid it... is it actually hidden now?]
I'm a little focused on getting something ready for the Open Day (3rd July) at the moment... so hopefully I can re-focus a bit on the website after that.... assuming my wife doesn't give birth! (due on the 10th)!
Yeah its hidden now
should be coming to the open day thing with family, looking forward to seeing everything, oh and congrats!

200bunnies
And if I can be of any use for testing, I'd be happy to help.
