Jesus! Awesome.
Just started reading a bit of Matthew while trying to find a verse, and I seem to have got carried away! Read Matthew chapters 5-7 (well, read the whole thing!)! A lot of what Jesus is saying here seems quite obvious if you think about it (that's because it's true and it makes sense) but it's amazing how often we don't do things the way he says we should (or realise we're like that)! I'm finding it very helpful, very challenging and very encouraging all in one (despite having read it before - so that's no excuse), and it shows just how much more our God knows us than we do.
I especially like:
Ok, I was going to put Matthew 7:7-12, but having just reread it, I especially like it all.
So as cheesy as this post may be, read it. And savour every word. It's your maker speaking!

I read your post a while ago but only just read these chapters. I really like the way Jesus brings in the verses you highlighted. He's just made it clear that the kingdom of heaven is unlike anything they would have expected, and to get into it you have to be more perfect than anyone can be, and then he says if we ask God will forgive us and allow us entry into his Kingdom anyway (of course we need to come wth faith and repentance). It's a great beginning to his ministry that finishes with him dying and rising again so that he can forgive us.
It is truely wonderful! To have a God so righteous and just, so awesome and powerful, who, because He Himself invented love, gave His life and crushed death itself that we can have life that we don't deserve. A great thumbs up to the Oakes teams for spreading His great gospel and for doing His life making work!
