Who runs The Oakes?
The Oakes Holiday Centre, which opened July 2000, is owned by The Oakes Trust, a registered charity (no. 1064155).
A board of trustees oversees the centre.
The centre has long-term team as well as a volunteer team consisting of post-school or post-university students.
Additional support team volunteers help out on an occasional basis.
All members of the team are committed Christians and have completed an application process, including a Criminal Records Bureau check.
Why was The Oakes set up?
The Oakes has been established to provide a centre for 8-18 year olds to hear the Christian message / be encouraged in their faith / enjoy a holiday.
The primary focus is explaining Christianity. The talks given during the camp present the Christian message in a clear, exciting, and relevant way. They are direct and challenging in their approach, but at no time are the children/young people pressurised to make a response to what they have heard. All camps endeavour to encourage existing young Christians by helping them become more certain in their belief and more confident in sharing their faith with others. The Oakes also offers discipleship camps that are geared towards moving young Christians on in their walk with God. School camps have a different approach and complement R.E. curriculums and the government Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA) units of work. All camps are action packed and fun filled.
The Oakes main strength is the very committed team. The team’s desire is to be there for the campers - living, sharing and showing Christianity from the moment the children/young people arrive until the time they leave.
Will you come and share about The Oakes with my church, group, etc?
Subject to availability (and distance!), members of the team are able to share about The Oakes to any size group, either at The Oakes or at your home-group venue, church etc. Please contact us to make an enquiry of this nature.
